Free use of Hounslow Council gyms & swimming pools for people with diabetes

Since September 2007

Your Chair David Cahill  lobbied for preferential terms to be made available for people suffering from Diabetes (and heart disease and morbid obesity) in order to encourage them to keep fit and use facilities within Hounslow Council gyms and leisure centres.  As a consequence, Hounslow PCT’s Chief Executive and acting Director of Public Health had talks with CIP (who operated the Council’s gyms and leisure centres at the time) in order for preferential terms to be negotiated, but the response has been that we will have to wait until summer 2008 when contracts will be re negotiated for this to be considered.

Since then we understand that CIP has lost the contract to operate the Gyms but we will continue to place pressure for the new contract with the new operator to incorporate concessions.

Our Chief executive Colin stacey will take this matter up with the new Director of Public Health Mike Robinson to see whether he can come to an arrancgement with Fusion Leisure who now operate the Council Gyms & Swimming Pools.
