“A Road to Better Healthcare” Event at Civic Centre on Monday 19th May 2008

This was an event organised by LB Hounslow on healthcare services in Hounslow.  There were presentations by Tara Donnelly, Chief Executive of West Middlesex University Hospital; David Quigley, Director of Healthcare Procurement Hounslow PCT; Farid Fouladinejad, Associate Director of Strategy & Planning Hounslow PCT; Ian Kent Director from West London Mental Health Trust; Cllr Jon Hardy Chair of LB Hounslow Adults Health & Social Care Scrutiny Panel.  We operated our diabetes awareness stand, supported by other Lifestyle Roadshow  sponsors.

Diabetes UK Networking Day Saturday 15th March 2008.

Diabetes UK organised a Networking Day for volunteers from the London and South East Region to get together and give an opportunity to share ideas and best practice etc.  Your Chair David Cahill was asked to give a presentation to the delegates on our successes in applying for grant funding for our group.  Diabetes UK thought that other volunteers would be keen to hear about our successes as other groups also need these vital funds in order to run effectively and campaign for better services. 

“Lifestyle Roadshow” at Brentford Football Club on Saturday 12th April 2008
 

We attended the “Lifestyle Roadshow” at Brentford Football Club on Sat 12th April 2008.  We manned a diabetes awareness stand.  Your Chair helped Celia Cloughley (Lifestyle Nurse) with taking blood pressures.  Thank you Brentford Football Club Community Sports Trust for allowing us permission to operate the roadshow at your ground.

 

Collection at Tesco’s Mogdon Lane (Rugby Ground), Twickenham - Thursday 27th & Friday 28th March 2008

On 27th & 28th March we visited the Tesco’s store in Mogden Lane, Twickenham (by the rugby ground), and were allowed to have a diabetes awareness stand, distribute awareness material and collect donations.  We raised £634.37, thank you Tesco’s.

“Diabetes Awareness” talk to A.M.I.C.U.S Retired Members Association - Wednesday 6th February 2008

Your Chair David Cahill gave a “Diabetes Awareness” talk to the A.M.I.C.U.S Retired Members Association West London District a group of retired engineers from Heathrow Airport at the Hayes Working Men’s Club. Wednesday 6th February 2008.  This is the retired member association part of the Amicus part of Unite the Union. The Association kindly donated £50 to us for which we thank them. 

Collection at Tesco’s High St, Feltham - Thursday 7th & Friday 8th February 2008

On Thursday 7th & Friday 8th February we visited the Tesco’s store at High St, Feltham and were allowed to have a diabetes awareness stand, distribute awareness material and collect.  We raised £670.00, thank you Tesco’s.

“Diabetes Awareness” Stand at the Hounslow Jamia Masjid / Islam Centre, Friday 25th January 2008

We operated a diabetes awareness stand at a road show organised by the LB Hounslow Public Health Team at the Hounslow Jamia Masjid / Islam Centre, Wellington Road, Hounslow on Friday 25th January 2008 after the Jumma Prayers between 12.30 to 4.30pm.

Lifestyle Road Show, West Middlesex University Hospital, Tuesday 15th January 2008

We took part on a “Lifestyle” road show at West Middlesex Hospital on Tuesday 15th January 2008. As it was on a Tuesday it coincided with our regular Desk activities at Hospital.

“Diabetes Awareness” talk presented to Network Disability Hounslow Group, Monday 8th October 2007

Your Chair David Cahill gave a “Diabetes Awareness” talk to a group of people with hearing difficulties, organised by the Network Disability Hounslow Group at their monthly meeting on Monday 8th October 2007 at 2.00pm.

“Diabetes Awareness” talk presented to Hounslow Pensioner Forum, Friday 28th September 2007

Your Chair David Cahill gave a “Diabetes Awareness” talk to the Hounslow Pensioner Forum at their monthly meeting on Friday 28th September at 10.30am in The Montague Hall, Montague Road, Hounslow.

Diabetes Awareness and Collections at Asda, Feltham on Sat 25th August 2007 & Hounslow on Sun 9th September 2007.

We were invited to the Asda Superstores in Feltham on Sat 25th August and in Hounslow on Sun 9th September to have a “Diabetes Awareness” stand, distribute awareness material and collect monies.  We collected £212.72 at Feltham and £108.23 at Hounslow.  Thank you very much Asda and our volunteers.

“Diabetes Awareness” talk presented to Trinjan Woman’s Group, Tuesday 28th August 2007

Your Chair David Cahill and Membership Secretary Jasbir Chana gave a “Diabetes Awareness” talk to the Trinjan Group at their monthly meeting in August held at the Mulberry Centre in West Middlesex University Hospital.

Diabetes Awareness and Collections at Tesco Stores in August 2007

In August we visited 3 Tesco stores and were allowed to have a diabetes awareness stand, distribute awareness material and collect.  We collected £2,639.05.  The Diabetes UK Voluntary Groups based in Kingston, and Richmond & Twickenham assisted us.  The Kingston Group collected £95.23, The Richmond & Twickenham Group collected £114.72 and we collected £2,429.10.  The collection at Tesco’s Dukes Green Feltham on Friday 10th & Saturday 11th August at raised £913.  The Collection at Tesco’s High St Feltham on Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th August raised £740.  The Collection at Tesco’s Osterley on Friday 17th & Saturday 18th August at raised £986.  Thank you very much Tesco, our volunteers and the other Diabetes UK Voluntary Groups.

“Diabetes Awareness” Stand at the Community Day in Osterley Park, Sunday 15th July 2007

We operated a diabetes awareness stand and distributed “prevention and early detection” material.  There was also a stage on the front lawn with musicians and dancers, an art display, an open air theatre, workshops, and children’s activities. 

5-a-side Football Tournament and family fun day, Sunday 15th July 2007 .

This a 5-a-side Football Tournament and family fun day was in aid of Diabetes UK and West Middlesex University Hospital Diabetes Fund, and was held at Holy Trinity Primary School, Carrington Road, Richmond.  The event was organised by Richmond & Twickenham Voluntary Group. We offered our support to help operate the diabetes information and awareness stand.  As well as the football there was a BBQ & bar, refreshments, a bouncing castle, a kids “beat the goalie”, face painting, raffle, tombola, music & more for all to enjoy.   Over £900 was raised. 

 

“Diabetes Week” Collection at Tescos, High St, Feltham. June 2007

Our collection on 15th & 16th June collected £936.68. Our thanks go out to Tescos and all the volunteers who helped with the collection.

“Diabetes Awareness” talk presented to Local Authority staff working at the Civic Centre, Wednesday 14th June 2007

Your Chair David Cahill gave a “Diabetes Awareness” talk to staff working for the London Borough of Hounslow Local Authority in the Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow on Wednesday 14th June at 12.00am.

“Diabetes Awareness” Stand at a Health Event in Lampton School Wednesday  21st March 2007

The Business Links Team and the Hounslow Education Business Partnership organised a Health Event at Lampton School. We were invited and we operated a Diabetes Awareness Stand.  There were also stands from London underground, West Middlesex University Hospital, Kew Gardens, Upbeat Heart Support Group, and The Metropolitan Police.

“Diabetes Awareness” talk presented to The Physically Disabled User Group Meeting, 14th February 2007

Our Chair gave a “Diabetes Awareness” talk to The Physically Disabled User Group, which meets in the Civic Centre, Lampton Road Hounslow at 3.00pm.  The meeting went well, and a lot of questions about diabetes were answered.  We are available to give local talks, please contact our Chair for availability.
